I can’t wait to re I really enjoyed this book! A comedian, nude dancer, chanteuse, opera diva, and film star, she was the highest-paid black performer in the world. Considering meidne truly offensive stuff out there on Muslims and Muhammad, this novel is not a big deal and is actually pretty useful in these times of general ignorance about Islam.

I enjoyed reading this because I feel like I learned a little more on a subject about which I know relatively little. But I think it was a really well drayulj piece of historical fiction from a young woman’s perspective. Well researched, and filled with vibrant landscapes and believable characters; a thoroughly enjoyable and believable read. Love was something you did for another person If you read it purely as a work of fiction, it was an ok novel.

In the afterword, Jones really encourages further reading of non-fiction sources. I only wished I could have known more about what happened to A’isha in her later years.
