The Ring of Solomon, by Jonathan Stroud. The two eventually reach the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and, Bartimaeus dips the ring in the sea, fulfilling his command.

I can’t wait to start the original trilogy! While this is an enjoyable read for those of us that enjoy Bartimeaus, it is certainly not a good introduction to the world that Stroud created with this series.

I like the character of Asmira, but she is nowhere near as wonderfully flawed as Nathaniel was, nor did I want to root for her as strongly as I rooted for Kitty. The plot is more pf, and while the characte I have never hidden my love for the main Bartimaeus trilogy so I was quite happy to return to this world with one of my favorite characters, Bartimaeus.

Inspite of being a middle ranking djinn, Bartimaeus has more than one trick up his sleeve! The writing is rich and melodious, it’s so soothing after all the chick lit I’ve been reading in a while.

The first edition paperback was published in Oct. The world of Bartimaeus has a well formulated magic system and an interesting fantasy world making. Surpassing the original trilogy is a different matter. Oh, it’s just your standard girl meets djinni meets evil magician meets king meets the Queen of Sheba, featuring a hippo wearing a skirt.

Asmira tries to use her feminine wiles to convince Khaba to get her near Solomon but fails. Philosophy aside, there are plenty of spirits to summon, knives to throw, humans to devour, temples to build, and magicians to outwit. This mystery thriller for young readers is an excellent introduction to magic realism.

This book definitely needs to be read after reading the main trilogy.
